The Labour MP Jo Cox from Batley and Spen, Yorkshire killed soon after the surgery, she held in her constituency. A 52 year old man attacked her when she came out of the surgery. Jo Cox, a mother two children and first time elected MP was shot and stabbed. The motive of killing is yet confirmed but initial reports suggest that the crime might be result of her active involvement in the Remain Campaign in the referendum on 23rd June. She was also a vocal supporter and campaigner for migrant children. This is a first murder of a sitting MP in more than two decades.
Campaigning for the EU referendum by Britain Stronger in Europe and Vote Leave was suspended for 24 hours. The debate between both camps become heated and polarised in run-up to polling day next Thursday.
According to the British media, the arrested man is believed to have had long-term links with a Far-Right hard line group based in London. This group had been campaigning for many years for Britain to leave EU. The killer shouted Britain First as the MP was shot and then stabbed. Britain First was founded by some former members of British National Party, has denied having any links with the killer and condemned the murder. The killer was linked with the group which supported the Apartheid regime in South Africa.
She was harassed for more than 3 months before being killed.
Some other MPs also been attacked in last few years. This is a cold blooded murder with political motivation. The racist organisations are using violent means to achieve their political goals. The ruling class or some sections of the ruling class in Europe also using racism for their political gains.
The question of race like the religion also used to divide the working people. These ideas create hatred among the people of different races, nationalities and religions. The increased attacks on the living standards of working class and poor and continued austerity has created such situation in which these reactionary ideas flourish. The more cuts on welfare, health and other services have made the lives of working people more difficult. The poverty is on the rise even in the so-called first world.
