Telecom workers refused to sign the agreement on privatization to get increase in the wages. The PTCL management tried to break the unity of workers to offer them the wages increase of 30% to get signatures to accept privatization.

All the general managers tried to force the workers to accept this agreement to show to public, government and media that workers are not against the privatization, but few leaders are opposing it for their own interest. All the workers make it clear to the management, that they will only accept this agreement when action committee will ask them to sign.

This has been a serious blow to the efforts of management to undermine the authority of action committee. Workers have also said to the management that they will reject the pay increase to defeat the privatization. The senior officials of PTCL also tried to convince the low paid workers to accept the deal, but they also refused.

The action committee meeting is still going on to decide the future strategy and actions. The differences exist in the action committee on the question of future actions. Some leaders are trying to resolve the differences to keep the unity intact. We are in touch with our members and sympathizers to form the strategy. The government also anxiously waiting for the out comes of this meeting. The decision on negotiations with the government will also be taken in this meeting. TURCP has made it clear to the action committee that we will not accept any compromise on privatization.
