Sacked Postal Workers Won The Battle

1400 workers reinstated

The 1400 daily wages and contract postal workers have won their battle against the postal authorities. The postal authorities sacked these workers without any legal procedure and prior notice. The sacked workers moved to the courts against this illegal action. The postal authorities failed to explain the reasons of sacking in the courts. The government immediately intervened and announced the reinstatement of sacked workers. The postal workers also organized protests demonstrations against the sackings. This is an important victory for the postal workers which were brutally repressed by the postal authorities headed by a retired General. More than 2000 trade union activists and members were sacked by the General in last 6 years. He also banned the trade union activities in the post offices. Postal union leader and TURCP Chairman Fazal Abbas Shah were also sacked by the postal authorities on the allegation of trade union activism.

TURCP members were involved in this struggle from the beginning. TURCP members helped the sacked workers to start the legal battle. TURCP members took active part in the protest demonstration. TURCP also organized solidarity meetings in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi in which main public sector unions participated. TURCP members are still pressing the demand to confirm all the daily wages and contract workers. These workers are working as casual labour for many years, but there services are not being regularized.
